smoked sardines, amalfi lemon, bottarga
Attention all fans of South Union Park and Eleven Strands: a new concept restaurant has arrived! If youâve been digging the grub from either of these restaurants then youâd be pleased to know that the same folks have a new restaurant called Mia. Much like its counterparts, Mia serves delicious mains such as the Seafood Risotto ($28) that comes loaded with a plethora of fresh seafood ingredientsâweâre talking prawns, clams, squid, baby scallops, and green shelled mussels, all doused in tomato sauce with a sprinkle of parmesan and a dash of parsley.
The pasta was very tasty and the portions were generous. Especially liked the pairing with white wine sauce. Makes for a nice hearty dinner. Coupled with Burpple Beyond makes for good value as well.
A complex, full-bodied cocktail that celebrates the dark underbelly of forbidden godown distilleries of the early 20th century.

This features a blend of banana infused whisky, smoked maple syrup, and barbecue bitters, served in a generous whisky bottle and poured over ice.
.
The drink carries potent fruity boozy sweet savoury smoky flavour, you taste the distinct notes of banana and barbecue and whisky and smoke.
.
Loved this strong tipple, a fantastic brew that I would order again.

Good size. Good taste.
I get the creative idea behind the Ice Cream Popiah, though it's unwieldy to eat when rolled with the chewy thin wheat pancake crepes, which complements with its grainy sweet flavour.
.
The garnish of coriander with its vegetal bitter herbal flavour doesn't pair well with this dessert, although the garnish of peanut candy lends a welcome nutty sweet crunch.
.
The trio of locally-made ice cream flavours are delicious enough on their own, from the yam / taro ice cream with earthy sweet flavour, to the unique pineapple ice cream with fruity sweet notes, and the peanut ice cream with nutty savoury sweet flavour.

The mudslide (apparently one of the signature items on the desserts menu). However, on the day of visit, theyâd ran out of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The only options were strawberry and salted caramel. We went for the salted caramel with fudge. Not sure if it was the flavour combination, but I thought it was rather unimpressive and nothing much to shout about. I tasted the fudge on its own, expecting it to be âwowâ given itâs indicated as a signature dessert, I suppose it would still âwowâ somewhat despite the missing vanilla ice cream. It turned out to taste rather similar to Mcdonaldâs hot fudge. Was a tad disappointed!
Nothing short of fresh, succulent and juicy! Lobster tail was executed in a simple fashion - broiled with drawn butter and therefore well seasoned. Simplicity in its best!
Had what I would think would be the must-order âstandardâ item from the Lawryâs menu. My roast beef - California cut - was served with the famed spinning bowl salad performed table side, creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding. My favourite side would be the Yorkshire pudding - definitely one of the better ones Iâve had! It was puffy, fragrant and yet âcustardyâ in the centre. Itâs the perfect carb to soak up all the excess brown sauce. Creamed spinach was decent but a lilâ too âlimpyâ for my liking. Iâve had better creamed spinach elsewhere. Mashed potatoes were creamy, smooth and flavourful - a standard you would expect from Lawry's
We were also served 2 portions of Horseradish whipped cream tin two variations - 1 with a stronger wasabi flavour, 1 with a sweeter note and less hints of wasabi. I definitely preferred the roast beef doused in their signature gravy/ brown sauce. The husband quite enjoyed the roast beef with wasabi tho.
