you can choose to get a spicy or clear base!! but this one wasn’t really spicy, kind of like kimchi level? there was a lot of ingredients!! this was v comforting to eat esp if you sit indoors because the aircon is really strong HAHA
salmon sashimi ($6/3pc)
hamachi ($11/3pc)
tai ($10/3pc)
Tastier than expected and great with udon in it!
Yakizen is where you can find value-for-money lunches during the day and great Izakaya at night! Some of their stand-out dishes include the Salmon Aburi Maki ($26.80) and the Fresh Oyster with ponzu sauce (3pcs for $14.80). We reckon these would make for the perfect dinner when paired with either their Asahi or Sapporo bottles.
Serving authentic Japanese fare and drinks, Nanami Izakaya that’s located at Tanjong Pagar is the perfect spot for a quick lunch or an after-work gathering with your colleagues! Opt for their donburis during lunch and go for their selection of sashimi in the evening. We reckon the Salmon Belly Sashimi ($13) and the Scallop Sashimi ($12) would go great with a couple of pints of beer.

4⭐ Maruhachi has opened the 8th store at Bedok since it first open at Punggol in Nov 2020. I read about the long queue when it opened in Punggol and was relieved that there's no queue when we went to the Bedok outlet on it's first day of opening.
I ordered the cheese menchi katsu set and WB ordered the pork katsu curry. The portion is similar to the restaurant but price is almost half of what the tonkatsu restaurants are charging. However it's considered pricey compared to the food sold at other stalls in coffeeshop and it's not something you will eat everyday from a coffeeshop.
The tonkatsu are freshly fried upon order hence a waiting time of at least 10min and served on the metal rack to prevent it from getting soggy. The panko batter is different from those tonkatsu we had from the restaurant which is more crispy. The rice served is not ordinary rice but japanese rice. The miso soup has few slices of fishcake and kelp, I'm able to differentiate the quality of their miso soup from the normal coffeeshop miso soup. The cabbage served was sliced finely and fresh. Overall the food at Maruhachi are of quality considering it's from a coffeeshop.

We visited KOAL by Les Amis Group recently to try their set lunch. It’s a 3-course set and you get a choice of 1 starter, 1 rice bowl (includes Japanese rice, onsen egg & shredded nori) & 1 dessert. Here’s what we got:
~Burrata Salad, US Rib Eye, Hojicha & Whiskey Tiramisu ($42)
~Beef & Tofu, Grassfed Rib Eye, Freshly Fried Donut ($30)
Can’t really pick a favourite between both of our rice bowls, as both beef steaks were executed really well - nicely charred, with good textures and delectable flavours! We enjoyed the starters we chose too, both the Burrata Salad and Beef & Tofu were refreshing! As for desserts (not pictured), I liked the Hojicha & Whiskey Tiramisu, which is a nice twist on the classic tiramisu; we felt the filling could have been more generous in the Freshly Fried Donut.
All in, the set lunches are reasonably priced for the quality and portions you get! Their set lunch is available every Tuesday to Sunday from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
